LONDON (Sporting Alert) — World record Usain Bolt is looking forward to racing over 100m at the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games – IAAF Diamond League meeting – at the London Olympic Stadium this Friday.

Bolt’s slow start over this discipline this season as many of his fans nervous ahead of the IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia next month, but the Jamaican has revealed that things have been coming together.

The six-time Olympic gold medallist has a season’s best of 9.94 seconds, which is slower than his compatriot Nesta Carter, who clocked 9.87 Great Britain’s James Dasaolu, who ran 9.91 at the national Championships two weeks ago, but he’s ready to improve on his performance after revealing that training has been going well in recent weeks.

“This year I wanted to run as fast as possible and hopefully to break the World record,” said Bolt.

“But it’s been an up and down season so far, so I hope tomorrow will put me right on track to run really fast at the World Championships.”

Bolt, who ran his quickest time of the year at the Jamaica trials, says he could have gone faster there, but his aim was just to make the team.

“At the national championships my time could have been quicker but my aim was just to qualify,” he said. “Since then I’ve been working really hard, I’ve done solid training for the last two-and-a-half weeks and I feel in good shape.

“My confidence is really high and I am ready to run fast. I don’t really worry about times but I know I’m now in great shape. I’m going to run fast and hope to break the record.

“I’ve been training hard for three weeks and I just need to race to see if I need to work on anything else before the championships.”

The women’s 100m field is also loaded as well, Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare going up against Jamaica’s two-time Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, USA’s reigning World champion Carmelita Jeter, world-leader Kelly-Ann Baptiste of Trinidad and Tobago and US champion English Gardner.

Several other super stars, including Mo Farah, Kirani James, Britain’s Marilyn Okoro, USA’s Brenda Martinez and Ajee Wilson, New Zealand’s Valerie Adams, Renaud Lavillenie, Sally Pearson, Jessica Ennis-Hill and Warren Weir.
