(Sporting Alert) — Wayne Rooney makes his return for England in their final Group D clash against co-hosts Ukraine here in Donetsk tonight.
France will take on Sweden in the night’s other game in Kiev.
The Manchester United forward, who missed the opening two games against France and Sweden returns to the starting line up for Andy Carroll and will partner his United teammate Danny Welbeck up top.
England were hit by several setbacks because of injuries in the build up to the tournament, manager Roy Hodgson is now happy his team sits in good position where they can progress.
He said at his press conference: “You play football at international level to try to get people carried away.
“Dreaming is what football is about and we’re happy that people now think we can go a bit further.”
Meanwhile, Oleh Blokhin, the coach of Ukraine believes the Englishmen will have something to prove when they enter the pitch.
“England are among the favourites, so the pressure’s on them,” Blokhin said. “Our approach to this game is more relaxed.
“If the result is not good for us but we fight on the pitch until the last minute, that’s not bad for us. We’re building a new team, a young team. I think England will be very nervous.
