Week 25: Premier League Results, Standings – Feb 8

ESPN3 Schedule, English Premier League; NCAAM Rankings

LONDON, Sporting Alert – The following are the complete list of results from the Week 25 matches in the English Premier League over the weekend.

It was a very good weekend for Leicester City, Arsenal and Tottenham who secured victories and remain solid in the title race, while Aston Villa earned a well-needed three points with a win as well.

Leaders Leicester City extended their advantage atop of the EPL standings after going to the Etihad Stadium and thrashed Manchester City 3-1 to go five points clear of Tottenham and Arsenal.

A brace from Robert Huth and another strike by Riyad Mahrez earned the win for the Foxes, who moved to 53 points at the top.

Tottenham jumped into second place with a 1-0 win over Watford, with Kieran Trippier grabbing the all-important goal just after the hour mark.

Arsenal turned back Bournemouth 2-0 in their fixture on Sunday — courtesy of two quick first half goals from Mesut Ozil and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The win sees the Gunners joining Spurs on 48 points, but the pair continue to trail Leicester City.

Meanwhile, Manchester City, following the defeat, fell from second to fourth place with 47 points.

Manchester United remain in fifth place with 41 points after drawing 1-1 at Chelsea on Sunday.

The Red Devils had looked all set to grab another impressive win in recent fixtures, but Diego Costa bagged a late goal to earn a point for the Blues, who remain undefeated under Guss Hiddink.

In the meantime, Aston Villa took a step toward climbing out of the drop zone with a 2-0 win over fellow relegation threatened side Norwich City.

Elsewhere in the English Premier League in Week 25, Stoke City’s struggles continue after going down 3-0 to Everton, Southampton tagged West Ham United 1-0 and Newcastle edged West Brom 1-0 as well.

Swansea City and Crystal Palace finished 1-1, while Liverpool squandered a 2-0 cushion and were held 2-2 by Sunderland.
