OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma (Sporting Alert) — Russell Westbrook scored 27 of his 33 points in the first half, while Kevin Durant finished with 36 as the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 114-103 here at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City Friday night.
The Lakers had taken a 27-26 first quarter lead, but as expected Westbrook, who also dished out eight assists and knocked down five of his 3-point attempts in the first half and Durant, who pulled down nine rebounds – went to work to give the host a 67-53 lead at half-time.
Kobe Bryant and the visiting Lakers rallied in the final quarter, but it was little too late, as the Thunder held on for its seventh consecutive victory.
Serge Ibaka had 14 points and six boards, while Nick Collison added 13 points and seven rebounds in the win for Oklahoma City, which improved to 10-2 at home.
Bryant continued his good scoring form for the season with a game high 35 points and Dwight Howard added a double-double of 23 and 18 rebounds for the Lakers, which lost for the sixth time in eight road trips.
Ten of Howard’s 18 boards came in the first quarter.
Jodie Meeks contributed 17 points off the bench, while Chris Duhon ended with 14.
The Lakers were again without star forward Pau Gasol, who is suffering from tendinitis in both knees. He missed his third straight game.
Oklahoma City will next play at home against Indiana on Sunday, the Lakers host the Utah Jazz on the same day.
