WIGAN (Sporting Alert) — New signing Philippe Coutinho was named to starting lineup for Liverpool for today’s Barclays Premier League clash with Wigan at DW Stadium.
Coutinho has shown signs already of being a very good pick up for Brendan Rodgers’ side and manager has opted to start the Brazilian today.
Coutinho comes into the squad for Jordan Henderson, who is on the bench in the only adjustment from the starting side which defeated Zenit St Petersburg in the Europa League.
The Reds are without striker Daniel Sturridge, who misses the game with an injury, but leading striker Luis Suarez, Steven Gerrard and Stewart Downing all start.
Liverpool are ninth in the EPL standings on 39 points, while Wigan are just one place shy of the drop zone on 24 points and could do with a win.
Wigan manager Roberto Martinez, in the meantime, has decided to stay with the same starting side that beat Reading 3-0 last weekend.
