SPLIT (Sporting Alert) — Wesley Sneijder was on target and Inter Milan defeated Hajduk Split 3-0 in their third round qualifying game in the UEFA Europa League at the Stadion Poljud Thursday night.
Barclays Premier League side Liverpool also picked an away victory, so too did PAOK, while Twente had a 2-0 win over Boleslav.
Sneijder put Inter Milan in the lead after 18 minutes before Yuto Nagatomo added another right before the break. Philippe Coutinho scored the Serie A team’s third goal in the 73rd minute.
Over in Belarus, Stewart Downing scored the lone goal in Liverpool‘s close 1-0 win over FC Gomel to give Brendon Rodgers his first competitive victory as the new Reds boss his his move from Swansea City.
Also on Thursday, Leroy Fer and Nacer Chadli scored second half goals for Twente to beat Boleslav 2-0 at home, while Ismael Lopez scored twice in Athletic’s 3-1 win over Slaven Belupo.
Heerenveen were the biggest winners on the day, after beating Rapid B 4-0. Filip Djuricic scored a brace in the win.
