PARIS (Sporting Alert) — World No.1 and top overall seed Serena Williams will aim to reach the women’s final at the 2013 French Open tennis tournament as she seeks another title at Roland Garros.
Live TV Coverage on ESPN2 at 9:00 AM ET.
The American who has been in great form thus far at the French Open, will meet the fifth-seeded Sara Errani of Italy, who finished runner up to Maria Sharapova at last year’s tournament.
Williams has looked unstoppable at the tournament, while Errani has struggled against top five oppositions.
But after beating No.4 Agnieszka Radwanska 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) in her quarterfinals, the Italian is growing a little more confident, although she is not getting carried away with Williams next on her schedule.
“Playing Serena, it’s for sure very difficult because she’s very strong,” Errani said.
“Physically she’s an incredible athlete, so is not easy to play against her … because she has a lot of power.
“So it will be tough, but maybe on clay is a bit better than any other surface.”
Williams is also looking forward to a good game against Errani.
“You’ve got to appreciate how consistent she is. We had a pretty tough match in Madrid,” she said.
“She’s so serious. I can be ready for that.”
In the second semi-finals No. 2 and defending champion Sharapova of Russia and the third-seeded Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka will meet in what is expected to be a very exciting game.
The pair have met 12 times and Azarenka leads the battle 7-5.
“We have played each other so many times there are really no secrets between each other in terms of our game styles and what we do well and not,” said Sharapova, who will appear in her 17th major semifinal.
Azarenka added: “We are kind of similar and kind of different in the same way. It’s going to be definitely a battle.”
