Yohan Blake sounds own warning with 9.84 at Cayman Invite

GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands (Sporting Alert) — Yohan Blake fired his own warning to his rivals with a new seasonal best of 9.84 seconds to win the men’s 100m dash at Wednesday night’s inaugural Cayman Invitational at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.

Blake, the IAAF World Champion over 100m last summer, improved his best for the season from 9.90secs with the run, while going .02 seconds slower than Usain Bolt’s world-leading time of 9.82sec, which was done at the weekend.

The Jamaican said he was pleased with his race on the night and is now looking forward to going even faster in New York.

Finishing behind Blake were his fellow countryman Michael Frater, who clocked 10.05 seconds and Keston Bledman of Trinidad & Tobago, who ran 10.06.

Former world champion Kim Collins St. Kitts & Nevis was fourth in 10.11, while Kemar Hyman of Grand Cayman ran 10.20 and Kemar Bailey Cole of Jamaica and American Travis Padgett, who both clocked 10.29.

The women’s race was won by American world champion and world-leader Carmelita Jeter, who posted 11.04 seconds to easily beat Jeneba Tarmoh of USA (11.13) and Muriel Ahoure of Ivory Coast (11.14).
