2018 NCAA Super Regionals Baseball Tournament Qualifiers

MIAMI, Fla. — The field is now set for the 2018 NCAA Super Regionals baseball tournament this week, following the conclusion of the final round of regional fixtures on Monday night, June 4.

Defending champion and No. 1 national seed Florida endured Florida Atlantic to complete the Super Regionals lineup, which will include an interesting field after some of the favored ball clubs were eliminated in this round.

After losing 7-4 to the Owls in Game 1 in the Gainesville Regional championship at Alfred A. McKethan Stadium, the Gators bounced back later in the night to win Game, 2 5-2 to advance to the next round.

Meanwhile, after forcing a Game 2 in the NCAA Oxford Regional with a massive 15-5 win over No. 1 seed and nationally ranked Ole Miss, No. 2 seed and the big-hitting Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles completed the doubleheader sweep by edging the Rebels 3-2 in the second game to advance to the Super Regionals for the first time.

By eliminating the No. 4 nationally ranked Ole Miss, Tennessee Tech became the first Ohio Valley Conference ever to secure a berth to the Super Regionals.

Also heading to the NCAA Super Regionals for the first time in school history is Duke after the Blue Devils won both elimination games against No. 1 seed Georgia.

Duke defeated Georgia 8-5 earlier in the day in Game 1 before using four home runs later to take Game 2 to hold off the Bulldogs and extended its season.

“I’m kind of at a loss for words,” said head coach Chris Pollard. “I want to congratulate Georgia on an unbelievable season.

“To say that I’m proud of our team is the biggest understatement that I’ve ever said. Unbelievable resiliency and character and fight. They’ve got a lot invested in one another.”

Also securing passage into the NCAA Super Regionals was Mississippi State, which won the Tallahassee Regional on Monday.

The Bulldogs used a strong offensive performance to gain an 8-1 victory against Oklahoma at Dick Howser Stadium.
