AP Top 25 College Football Rankings Week 1: Sep. 6

MIAMI, FL, Sporting Alert – Alabama and Clemson remain firm as the top two teams in the country, but there were several movements in Week 1 of the AP Top 25 College Football Rankings, released on Tuesday.

Defending College Football Playoff champion Alabama collected 52 of the 61 first-place votes to stay at the top of the rankings after crushing USC 52-6 in Week 1 on Saturday.

The Crimson Tide, who host Western Kentucky in Week 2 this weekend, also received 1,518 points.

Clemson expectedly stay second in the AP Top 25 rankings, following a close 19-13 win over Auburn.

The Tigers had two first-place votes and 1,416 points.

Meanwhile, Florida State, who received four votes for first place from the media panel, notched up one place to No. 3 this week, after its impressive victory over then-No. 11 Ole Miss in Orlando, on Monday night.

Meanwhile, Big Ten outfits Ohio State and Michigan rounded out the top five, following big wins over Bowling Green and Hawaii, respectively.

The Buckeyes hammered the Falcons 77-10, while the Wolverines, who received the other first-place vote, smashed the Rainbow Warriors 63-3.

Houston moved up nine spots from No. 15 to No. 6 this week, after stunning preseason No. 3 Oklahoma 33-23 on Saturday.

The Cougars’ victory was perhaps the most impressive in Week 1, as the defeat knocked the Sooners down 11 places to No. 14.

Stanford, Washington, Georgia and Wisconsin, which upset then-No. 5 LSU last week, completed the top 10 in Week 1 of the poll.

Texas, which down Notre Dame enters the AP Top 25 Rankings this week at No. 11, while Michigan State, Louisville and TCU round out the top 15.

Tennessee’s struggles to see off Appalachian State resulted in a fall from No. 9 to No. 17, Notre Dame dropped eight spots to No. 18.

Ole Miss is at No. 19, Texas A&M is at No. 20, while the LSU Tigers dipped from No. 5 to No. 21.

It was a big drop for Les Miles’ side, but everyone had already saw this coming.

Dropping from the rankings this week were UCLA (16), USC (20), North Carolina (22) and Florida (25).
