Malik Monk: ESPN3 College Basketball

KENTUCKY, Sporting Alert - AP Top 25 and ESPN3 schedule for the college basketball games listed for Wednesday, 21 December.

The highlighted fixture on the night is no doubt the ranked-v-ranked AP Top 10 and state rivalry showdown between No. 6 Kentucky and No. 10 Louisville at KFC Yum! Center.

No. 1 Villanova, No. 2 UCLA, No. 4 Baylor, No. 5 Duke, No. 7 Gonzaga and No. 8 North Carolina are all on the live schedule as well.

Louisville v Kentucky Battle

Although John Calipari and Rick Pitino respect each other, both coaches are well aware that these two programs don't like each other and dislike losing to one another.

The Wildcats (10-1) hold a 34-15 advantage over the Cardinals in the all-time series, and are 8-1 since Calipari arrives.

Last time they met, Kentucky edged home 75-73 last December, but Calipari isn't straying too far from the present.

"I don't think any of the past games have any bearing on this game," Calipari said. "When I'm coaching against a guy that has won some games against me, I'm not worried about the past.

"I'm just saying, 'How do we win this game?' I would say he's thinking the same way."

He added: "I'm happy when it's over. Just get it done. Everybody makes it life or death and it's not life or death ... it's worse than that.

"Just play the game, let's see what happens and let's go. We've got our league to deal with, he's got his league to deal with, let's just move on."

Kentucky travels for this game on the back of a thrilling 103-100 win over North Carolina on Saturday, with freshman sensation Malik Monk hitting eight 3-pointers on his way to scoring a career-high 47 points, which is the most by a freshman in program history.

Fellow freshman De'Aaron Fox also scored a career-high 24 points for Wildcats, which has four players scoring in double-digits this season.

Louisville (10-1) enters this game on a five-game winning streak and dominated Eastern Kentucky 87-56 in its last outing on Saturday.

Donovan Mitchell is averaging 11.7 points and 5.7 rebounds and Quentin Snider is scoring 11 points to lead the Cardinals.

Those numbers are significantly lower than Monk's 21.9 points, Fox (15.9), Isaiah Briscoe (15.9) and Bam Adebayo (12.6).

Coach Pitino admits that his opponents have better talents but the veteran coach is expecting a well measured matchup.

"Nobody has the athletes and the talent that Kentucky has," Pitino said. "They have great talent.

"That doesn't mean you can't beat them, but you just have to know what you are going up against. ... It is going to be a great basketball game."

Meanwhile, top-ranked and defending champion Villanova will go in search of its 12th straight win when it hosts American at The Pavilion.

The Wildcats rolled to a 78-57 win over Temple last week and will be aiming for further success on Wednesday night against the Eagles.

Elsewhere, the AP Top 25 schedule also sees No. 2 UCLA looking to stay undefeated and extend its season record to 13-0 with another win over Western Michigan.

In other Top 25 fixtures, No. 4 Baylor will meet Texas Southern, looking to go 12-0 this term, No. 5 Duke will try to collect its 10 straight victory when the Blue Devils tackle Elon.

No. 7 Gonzaga battles with South Dakota live on ESPN3, hoping to extend its 11-0 start to the campaign, while No. 8 North Carolina will host Northern Iowa at Dean E. Smith Center.

In ESPN3 schedule games, Boston University will face-off with UMass Lowell, Eastern Illinois meets Indiana State, while Incarnate Word and Memphis will battle.
