MADRID (Sporting Alert) — It could be a long summer for Arsenal if the English Premier League side is not willing to spend big on signing a world-class striker in the transfer window to prepare for the new season.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with a move for Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain and it was widely reported throughout this week that a deal was almost close to being finalized.
In fact, reports in the media claimed that the Argentine goalscorer was heading to London to provide the finishing touch and work on personal terms.
However, both Real Madrid and the striker’s handlers, have strongly denied these reports, with Spanish daily MARCA now reporting that the La Liga club turned down a €27 million offer from Arsenal.
It is understood that Real Madrid no longer wants to sell Higuain, but would consider letting him leave for a big offer.
Arsenal could miss out on signing the center forward since they are at the moment standing firm on their current offer.
Arsene Wenger’s side has also been linked with a move for Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney, but following a press conference from the Red Devils’ boss David Moyes on Friday, the England international looks well set to stay at Old Trafford for the coming season.
Arsenal has also been linked with a surprised move for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez.
