Associated Press College Football Rankings Week 5 – Sept. 23

MIAMI – Alabama stayed No. 1 in the latest Associated Press College Football Rankings on Sunday, as the top four returned in the same positions.

MIAMI – Alabama stayed No. 1 in the latest Associated Press College Football Rankings on Sunday, as the top four returned in the same positions.

With five newcomers listed in the AP rankings for Week 5, Virginia Tech (13), Oklahoma State (15), TCU (17), Texas A&M (22) and Boston College (23) all made way in rankings.

Alabama collected a season-high 60 of the 61 votes for first place from the voting panel after beating Texas A&M on Saturday.

Georgia, Clemson, which collected the other first-place vote and Ohio State, which welcomes back head coach Urban Meyer on the sideline, stayed Nos. 2 through 4.

Meanwhile, after stunning last week’s No. 14 ranked Mississippi State, 28-7 on Saturday, Kentucky enters this week rankings at No. 17 – with Wildcats in the AP rankings for the first time since 2007.

No. 18 is Texas, which is back in the Top 25 again this season after starting the term ranked No. 23.

Undefeated Duke entered the rankings at No. 22 this week, at No. 24 is California, while No. 25 Texas Tech is ranked this week after an impressive victory at Oklahoma State.

No. 5 LSU, is up one spot this week, following the 38-21 win over Louisiana Tech.

No. 6 Oklahoma, slipped one place in the rankings after the Sooners were taken to overtime at home by Army.

No. 23 Mississippi State, dropped the biggest. The Bulldogs are down nine spots this week after the loss at Kentucky.

No. 16 Miami is up five places this week.
