Michigan State closed out the regular season with a vital victory to win the Big Ten East, as they pipped Ohio State for a place in the Big Ten Championship Game against the undefeated Iowa.

Connor Cook returns from a shoulder injury which kept him out of the win over Ohio State last week to throw for 248 yards and three touchdowns in a 55-16 win for the fifth-ranked Spartans (11-1, 7-1 Big Ten) over Penn State.

Aaron Burbridge, R.J. Shelton and Josiah Price each caught touchdown passes, with Gerald Holmes and LJ Scott rushing for scores as well for Michigan State.

Chris Godwin had 11 catches for 109 yards and two touchdowns for Penn State (7-5, 4-4 Big Ten), with Christian Hackenberg throwing for 257 yards and two touchdowns in the defeat.

Meanwhile, No. 4 Iowa defeated Nebraska 28-20 in their fixture on Friday to improved to 12-0 on the term and collected its first unbeaten season in 93 years, according to the stats gurus.

Jordan Canzeri ran for two long touchdowns and finished with 140 rushing yards for the Hawkeyes (12-0, 8-0 Big Ten) who will be hoping to keep their undefeated streak going when they face Michigan State next week.

The winner of that game is almost certain to secure a college football playoff semi-final spot.

Defending national champion Ohio State rebounded from its unimpressive performance against the Spartans a week ago by blasting No. 10 Michigan 42-13 in the final regular season game.

Ezekiel Elliott ran for 214 yards and two touchdowns and J.T. Barrett rushed 19 times for 139 yards and three scores to help the No. 8 Buckeyes (11-1, 7-1 Big Ten) to the win.

Victory on the day also saw Ohio State coach Urban Meyer improving to 4-0 in his series against Michigan.

Jake Rudock passed for 263 yards and a touchdown and Jehu Chesson caught the ball eight times for 111 yards and a touchdown in the defeat for the Wolverines (9-3, 6-2 Big Ten).
