The Boston Celtics continued their strong start to the season with a 121-116 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night. Jayson Tatum led the way with a game-high 34 points, while Jaylen Brown added 29 points in the win.
Malcolm Brogdon made an impact off the bench, finishing with 23 points and seven assists, and Robert Williams III recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Al Horford also contributed 11 rebounds, while Derrick White led the team with 11 assists.
The Celtics, who have now won two straight games, were efficient offensively, shooting 49.5% from the field and 15-34 from three-point range. On the other hand, the Spurs shot 49% from the field, but were outrebounded by the Celtics 51-43.
In the paint, the Spurs had the edge with 70 points to the Celtics’ 54, but the Celtics were able to capitalize on second-chance points and fast break opportunities, finishing with 19 and 10 points, respectively.
Zach Collins led the way for the San Antonio with 18 points and 12 rebounds, and he was joined by eight other players who scored in double figures. Tre Jones had 18 points five assists and five rebounds, and Josh Richardson scored 18 points off the bench.
Romeo Langford finished with 14 points and seven rebounds for the Spurs, while Doug McDermott and Jeremy Sochan scored 13 and 11 points, respectively. Malaki Branham and Stanley Johnson added 10 points each in the defeat for San Antonio (13-27), which has now lost four of their past five games.
Boston led at halftime, thanks to their efficient shooting in the first two periods. They shot 55% from the field and made 27 of 49 shots in the opening half, giving them a 68-57 lead at the break.
When will Celtics and Spurs play next game?
The Celtics will now begin a two-game home stand starting Monday against the Chicago Bulls, while the Spurs will hit the road for a two-game trip starting Monday against the Memphis Grizzlies.
