BOWL SCORES: MARSHALL 16, UCONN 10

Chase Litton went 23 of 34 on completed passes for 218 yards and threw for the team’s only touchdown to help Marshall beat Connecticut 16-10 in the St. Petersburg Bowl on Saturday.

Deandre Reaves took nine catches for 88 yards and Ryan Yurachek caught a 16-yard pass for a touchdown for the Thundering Herd (10-3), who tallied 218 passing yards in the victory.

Trailing 13-7 at halftime, Connecticut (6-7) pushed for a victory, but its pursuit ended when Nick Smith made a 33-yard field goal with 1:44 left in the game to dampen the Huskies’ hopes of winning.

Victory on Saturday, meanwhile, sees Marshall winning 10 games for three straight seasons and have now won five straight bowl games and improved to 10-2 all-time in bowl games.

This was the first meeting between the two sides.

Connecticut, which was held to just 86 passing yards, was playing in its first bowl game since losing to Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl in 2011, is now 3-3 in bowls.

Myles Gaskin ran for 181 yards and four touchdowns, including an impressive 86-yard game-winning marker, and Washington defeated Southern Mississippi 44-31 for the Heart of Dallas Bowl on Saturday.

Gaskin ran for two short scores in the first quarter to give the Huskies (7-6) a 14-7 lead before racing off for an 86-yard touchdown which broke a third-quarter tie.

He capped off the evening with another touchdown in the fourth-quarter to help increased the lead to 41-24 with 7:53 remaining in the game and became the first Washington player to run for at least 4 TDs in a game since Corey Dillon, who rushed for five in 1996.

Jake Browning completed 23 of 34 passes for 284 yards and Jaydon Mickens took eight catches for 95 yards at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas.

Nick Mullens went 25 of 38 on completed passes for 331 yards and two touchdowns, while Michael Thomas took nine catches for 190 yards and two touchdowns.
