CATHERINE HALL, St James — Darren Mattocks and Cory Burke scored for Jamaica in a 2-1 win over Suriname in a CONCACAF Nations League game at the Montego Bay Sports Complex on Saturday night.
Burke headed the Reggae Boyz in front in the seventh minute before Mattocks doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the 15th minute.
Suriname pulled a goal back shortly before halftime when Donnegy Fer scored from close range.
Jamaica had several opportunities to add the score in the second half, but Mattocks, who hit the post and had a goal ruled out for offside after the break believe Jamaica were lucky on the night.
“We always have trouble putting away the smaller teams in the region,” he said.
Suriname started the second half brightly and put the Jamaicans under pressure, but coach Theodore Whitmore’s side was able to hold out for the win.
The Reggae Boyz now have nine points after beating the Cayman Islands 4-0 and had a 6-0 win over Bonaire in their previous two games.
Suriname remains on four points after the defeat.
