SPORTING ALERT – College bowl scores and results from the games that took place on Christmas Eve, Thursday 24, December. The college bowl trophies won on the day were the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl and the Hawaii Bowl.
WESTERN MICHIGAN 45, MIDDLE TENNESSEE 31
Jamauri Bogan ran for four touchdowns and 215 yards on 19 carries, and Western Michigan defeated Middle Tennessee 45-31 in the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl on Thursday.
Bogan ran for long scores from 62 and 46 yards, while adding two more touchdowns with 1-yard runs to guide the Broncos (8-5) to its first bowl win in program history.
Star wide receivers Corey Davis and Daniel Braverman continued their impressive showings this campaign after the pair finished with over 100 receiving yards again.
Davis caught eight balls for 183 yards and one touchdown, while Braverman had five catches for 101 yards and a TD for Western Michigan, which had 613 total yards on offense, while outgaining Middle Tennessee 282-115 on the ground.
Zach Terrell was 18 of 26 on completed passes for 297 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
Brent Stockstill threw for 327 yards on 26 of 39 completed passes and three touchdowns for Middle Tennessee, while fellow freshman Richie James had eight catches for 126 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for another 61 yards and a score for the Blue Raiders (7-6).
Ed’Marques Batties had five catches for 88 yards and Christian Collis caught a pass for a touchdown in the defeat.
SAN DIEGO STATE 42, CINCINNATI 7
San Diego State rushed out to a 14-0 lead and kept going en route to crushing the Cincinnati 42-7 in the Hawaii Bowl at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu on Christmas Eve.
Christian Chapman passed for 113 yards and one touchdown and Donnel Pumphrey rushed for 99 yards and a score, as well as passing for a TD for the Aztecs (11-3) who won their 9th consecutive game to close out the year.
Running back Rashaad Penny returned the game’s opening kickoff 100 yards to send San Diego State on its way, while Dakota Gordon, who was named player of the game, had two scored to help Rocky Long claimed his third bowl win.
The Aztecs, who won the Mountain West Conference earlier this month, was earning its first 11-win season since 1969.
Hayden Moore was 19 of 30 on completed passes for 202 yards, but was picked off three times in the defeat for Cincinnati (7-6).
Max Morrison had seven catches for 84 yards, while Mike Boone rushed for the only score for the Bearcats, who were held off the scoreboard in the opening three quarters.
