(Sporting Alert) — Landon Donovan has been named in the United States starting line-up for tonight’s friendly football international clash with Guatemala.
Donovan had been dropped from the national setup, but was recently recalled by head Jurgen Klinsmann for the upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup.
“I am very excited to be back,” the Los Angeles Galaxy forward said. “It’s been a long year or so since I have been in.
“It’s exciting to be part of the team again. I am in a little bit of a different place than I was before. Jurgen has created an environment where you are really competing consistently to part of this team.
“And now I am very much on the outside looking in, and I’ve got to make my way back in. I look forward to it.”
DaMarcus Beasley, who will captain the team at the Gold Cup, Oguchi Onyewu and Clarence Goodson all start in the backline, while José Torres plays in midfield and Herculez Gomez starts in the forward line.
Nick Rimando has been given the starting place in goal with Tim Howard unavailable.
Chris Wondolowski and Stuart Holden are amongst the starters on the bench.
