LONDON (SportingAlert) – Ajinkya Rahane scored a workman-like century to help India recovered from 145 for 7 to reach 290-9 at the close of day one of the second Investec Test against England at Lord’s on Thursday.
Winning the toss and electing to bowl first on a green pitch at Lord’s, England restricted India to 145 for seven wickets, with three of those batsmen failing to reach double figures.
However, Rahane’s fighting knock of 103, and the support from number nine batsman Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who made 36, rescued the visitors and helped to post a decent total when stumps were pulled by the umpires.
At the close, Ishant Sharma is not out on 12 and fellow tail-ender Mohammed Shami, 14. The pair will be hoping to get some more runs when play resumes on Friday morning.
Fast bowler James Anderson has so far taken four wickets for 55 runs, while Stuart Broad has two for 79.
