England v New Zealand Lunch Scoreboard: Day 2

LONDON (Sporting Alert) — New Zealand dismissed England for 389 and then made a steady start on the second day of the first Test at Lord’s on Friday.

Resuming on their overnight score of 354 for seven, England added 34 runs in the session before being bowled out inside the first hour.

Moeen Ali added nine runs to his bedtime score of 49 to complete his half century before he was caught behind by wicketkeeper Tom Latham for 58 off the bowling of pacer Trent Boult.

Boult and Latham also combined to remove fast bowler Stuart Broad for three runs, with fellow seamer James Anderson, caught and bowled by Matt Henry for 11.

Mark Wood was left unbeaten on eight on debut.

Boult was the best New Zealand bowler in the first innings after finishing with figures of four for 79, while Henry took four wickets for 93 runs on his debut.

New Zealand reached 44 without loss at lunch in their reply, with openers Latham not out 13 and Martin Guptill on 26 not out.

England’s Wood had Guptill caught at slip by captain Alastair Cook when he was on 24, but his celebrations were cut short when the third umpire deemed that he overstepped the line and bowled a no-ball.

Earlier, Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler all made half centuries for England to help the hosts recovered from a dismal starting position of 30 for four on Thursday.

Root fell two runs short of making his hundred after he was out for 98, while Stokes hit 92 and wicketkeeper Buttler made 67.
