Team news

Feyenoord v Manchester City

Manchester City made on adjustment to the team that beat Liverpool 5-0 on Saturday, with Bernardo Silva replacing Danilo. This means Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson, who had a nasty clash with Liverpool’s Sadio Mane and needed eight stitches to his face, has recovered enough to start.

Man City: Ederson, Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Mendy, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, Bernardo, Silva (c), Jesus, Aguero.

Feyenoord: Jones, St.Juste, Botteghin, Van der Heijden, Nelom, Amrabat, El Ahmadi, Vilhena, Boetius, Kramer, Berghuis.

As expected, Loris Karius starts in goal for Reds, who have also drafted in Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren.

Karius replaces Simon Mignolet between the sticks, while Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ragnar Klavan also made way from the side that was hammered 5-0 by Manchester City in the English Premier League over the weekend.

Meanwhile, the healthy again Philippe Coutinho is set to make his first appearance of the season after he was named among the substitutes.

Coutinho, who was heavily linked with Barcelona and even submitted a transfer request in the summer, had been bothered by a back injury and illness.

Deadline Day signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who moved from Arsenal, is also on the bench, along with James Milner and Daniel Sturridge.

Winger Mohamed Salah is fit to start as well for Liverpool, despite sitting out training on Tuesday with a sore throat.

Fellow attacker Sadio Mane will also start despite his sending off at Manchester City on Saturday since his three-game ban only pertains to FA games.

Emre Can, Georginio Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson and Roberto Firmino all start as well for the Reds at Anfield.

Meanwhile, former Manchester City winger Jesús Navas is among the starters today for Sevilla.

Other notable starters for the visitors are Steven N’Zonzi, Éver Banega, Joaquín Correa and Simon Kjaer, while Franco Vázquez is among the subs.

Today’s clash is the second meeting between Liverpool and Sevilla, as their only previous clash came in the final of the 2016 Europa League when the La Liga side won 3-1.

Liverpool team: Karius, Gomez, Lovren, Matip, Moreno, Henderson, Can, Wijnaldum, Salah, Mane, Firmino. Subs: Mignolet, Milner, Coutinho, Sturridge, Klavan, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Robertson.

Other top teams in action on Match Day 1 on Wednesday evening are defending champions Real Madrid, Monaco, Tottenham and Manchester City.
