WILMINGTON, N.C. — Ty Gadsden had 21 points and led three other teammates in double figures as UNC Wilmington eased past Delaware State 87-63 on Wednesday.

Gadsden, Pridgen Guide UNC Wilmington To Win

Gadsden, who is averaging 16.3 points per game this season, shot 5 of 10 from the field and made 3 of his 6 attempts from 3-pointers. He also made all eight of his free throws.

Jaylen Sims added 15 points, Joe Pridgen registered his double-double with 14 points on 5 of 8 shooting from the floor, and 10 rebounds and Jake Boggs had 11 points and four boards for the Seahawks (6-3).

“I don’t think anyone would say we would be 6-3 after nine games,” said UNC Wilmington coach Takayo Siddle. “We’ve had some bumps in the road, but we’ve come in every day and worked.

“I challenged them to pick our energy level up in the second half. I challenged them not to be satisfied with winning the game, but to get better during the game.”

Zach Kent shot an efficient 7 for 9 from the field to score 15 points with four rebounds for Delaware State (0-4).

Pinky Wiley had 10 points, five rebounds and four steals and Omari Peek-Green scored 10 points for the Hornets, who remain without a win this season after playing all their games on the road.

Dominik Fragala had six points and three steals in the defeat for Delaware State, which shot 36.5% for the game on 23 of 63 shooting.

UNC Wilmington was 48.2% shooting from the field on 27 of 56 attempts. The Seahawks were winning three straight games and four in the last five outings.
