NEW YORK (Sporting Alert) – Richard Gasquet stunned David Ferrer to reach his first ever grand slam semi-finals, following his impressive outing in the quarter-finals that at the U.S. Open on Wednesday.

Gasquet, seeded eighth in the tournament, secure a 6-3, 6-1, 4-6, 2-6, 6-3 victory over the fourth-seeded Ferrer, who was also the French Open runner-up.
Gasquet, who became the first Frenchman in 20 years to reach a U.S. Open semi, will now face either the second-seeded Rafael Nadal or his fellow Spanish countryman Tommy Robredo, who is seeded 19th in the tournament.
Nadal, who has been very impressive so far at the U.S. Open will meet Robredo later on tonight as both players seek to extend their run in New York.
Meanwhile, world No. 1 and top-seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia will match talents with the 21st-seeded Mikhail Youzhny in one of two quarterfinals on the schedule for Thursday.
Wimbledon champion and the third-seeded Andy Murray face a strong competition in ninth-seed Stan Wawrinka in the other semis.
