UNCASVILLE, Conn. — — Devon Daniels tallied 18 points on 7 of 13 shooting to help the North Carolina State Wolfpack rout the UMass Lowell River Hawks 90-59 on Thursday night to remain undefeated this season.
Cam Hayes and Jericole Hellems also reached double figures in scoring after getting 17 points each. Hellems, who shot 6 of 9 from the field, also added five rebounds and five assists, while Hayes dished out six assists for the Wolfpack (3-0) to win their third straight in the young season.
All three players were in double digits for scoring by halftime, with Hellems scoring 13 points, and Hayes and Daniels 10 apiece. North Carolina State led 43-19 after making seven 3-pointers before the break.
Darion Jordan-Thomas paced UMass Lowell with 12 points and five rebounds. Obadiah Noel ended with 10 points and seven rebounds and Salif Boudie scored 10 points for River Hawks (1-3), who shot 39.6% and gave away 20 off 19 forced turnovers.
With their scores on Thursday, Boudie and Noel continue their streak of reaching double figures in scoring for the 30th straight game, but River Hawks lost for the third straight game after starting the season with a 76-68 win over San Francisco.
N.C. State took control of the game after using a 12-0 run deep into the first half to take a 22-point lead before the interval, and they lead by as many as 34 points in the second half
The Wolfpack shot 52.3% from the field in the win.
UMass Lowell was just 3-of-15 (20.0%) shooting from 3-point range in the defeat.
N.C. State is slated to play UConn on Saturday, live on ESPNU.
UMass Lowell is set to face Northeastern on Dec 9, after its game against Sacred Heart was postponed.
