Confirmed: Higuain From Napoli To Juventus For £75.3m

Gonzalo Higuain

TURIN, Sporting Alert - Gonzalo Higuain became the third most expensive footballer in history, after the Arsenal target completed a £75.3m move from Napoli to Juventus on Tuesday, the Italian champions confirmed.

He signed a five-year deal, Juventus said on Tuesday, with the club revealing that they are pleased to capture one of the world's most prolific No. 9s.

The striker's fee puts him behind Gareth Bale's world record figure of £85.1m from Tottenham to Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo's transfer fee of £80m from Manchester United to the Spanish giants as well.

Higuain attracted interest from English Premier League side Arsenal, but the Gunners manager Arsene Wenger was not prepared to pay such a high figure for the Argentine international.

In his 35 appearances in Serie A last season, the 28-year-old former Real Madrid forward scored a league record 36 goals and had a strike rate of 1 goal in every 0.97 games.

Higuain's high price capture could mean Juventus have already agreed to sell Paul Pogba to Manchester United, despite no announcements, although the Italian club said the arrival of the free-scoring striker does not mean they will be forced to sell the French international.
