The Sooners, who are the No. 1 overall seed with a season record of 46-2, 16-1, opened their NCAA Norman Regional with a bang on Friday night, after hitting four home runs, eight doubles and scored 19 runs on 18 hits on they way to securing a convincing 19-0 run-rule victory over Morgan State (24-16, 14-5) in just five innings.
Friday night’s four homers took Oklahoma’s season home run overall tally to 134. The total is tied for second best in NCAA history with the 2009 Arizona State squad. The 2010 Hawaii team holds the NCAA record with 158.
Meanwhile, the Wichita State softball team comes into this game with Oklahoma on the back of a 9-7 victory over Texas A&M to win its opener in the Norman Regional at Marita Hynes Field on Friday.
Catcher Madison Perrigan was among the stars for the Shockers on the night after she hit two home runs to help her team advanced.
“The first one I was really excited to put runs on the board first inning for the team and get us going,” Perrigan said. “I knew I had to be aggressive every pitch and was able to stick to that plan and come through and it was the best feeling ever.”
