ATLANTA — Jalen Hurts, the former Alabama starter jumped off the bench to lead the No. 1 ranked Crimson Tide to an exciting come-from-behind 35-28 victory over No. 4 Georgia in the SEC championship on Saturday.
Hurts, who was highly favored to transfer after losing his start spot to Tua Tagovailoa, impressively stepped up to lead Alabama (13-0) to victory on a night when Nick Saban’s men confirmed their place in the College Football Playoffs.
Hurts, who replaced injured Heisman Trophy favorite Tagovailoa with his team trailing by seven points in the fourth quarter, led the Tide on a 16-play, 80-yard scoring drive when he threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Jerry Jeudy on third-and-goal to even the score 28-28 late in the game.
With 1:04 remaining, he took off on a 15-yard scoring run to complete the comeback in dramatic fashion.
Tonight’s SEC Championship game was also a repeat of last season’s national championship game.
