STORYLINE PREVIEW: Rutgers (4-0) comes into this game on a four-game winning streak and will be hoping to extend that run with another to start conference play. For Maryland (4-1), it had its own four-game winning streak snapped by Clemson almost a week ago and I’m sure the Tigers will be looking to bounce back in this one.
The Scarlet Knights finished with an 11-9 record in conference play last season, while the Terrapins won 14 games and lost six.
Entering this game, Maryland is scoring an average of 84 points and giving up 59.3 in its last four home games. Overall, the Terrapins are holding opposing teams to 60.8 points per game, which is the second-fewest among all Big Ten teams. Rutgers, which is averaging 82.8 points per game will seek to challenge that defense.
Individually, Ron Harper Jr. averages 22.3 points and 7.5 rebounds for Rutgers ahead of this game with fellow guard Montez Mathis putting out 16.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game this season. Jacob Young has put up 16 points, 6.8 assists and 3.3 steals for the Scarlet Knights.
Eric Ayala averages 13.4 points for Maryland, Hakim Hart is scoring 12.2 points per game, while Donta Scott is contributing 11.6 points and 7.0 rebounds.
