LOS ANGELES — Dameane Douglas scored a career-best 23 points to pilot Loyola Marymount to an 81-76 victory over UC Santa Barbara at Albert Gersten Pavilion on Saturday.
Douglas, a sophomore guard from Hanford, CA, shot 9-for-12 from the field and pulled down five rebounds in the win. He is averaging 11.0 points, 7.4 rebounds and shooting 45.2% from the field this season.
Joe Quintana made 5 of his 8 attempts from 3-point range to finish with 22 points for the Lions (3-3).
Ivan Alipiev added 11 points with four rebounds and Eli Scott had nine points, five rebounds and three steals for Loyola Marymount.
JaQuori McLaughlin was 6-for-9 from the field and made 3 of his 6 shots from beyond the arc to end with 21 points, three rebounds, and four assits for UC Santa Barbara.
Ajare Sanni added 18 points for the Gauchos (3-1), who had their three-game winning streak snapped.
Loyola Marymount, which stayed undefeated at home this season, leveled the season series against UC Santa Barbara with the win on Saturday.
The Gauchos defeated Loyola Marymount 69-58 last Monday night, so the Lions were delighted to return the favor in the return game.
As a team this weekend, Loyola Marymount shot 52.8% on 28 of 53 shooting, while outscoring UC Santa Barbara 30-18 in points in the paint.
However, the Gauchos outscored the Lions 33-16 in points from the bench had 17 points off 16 turnovers. They shot 45.8% from 3-pointers in the win and was made 25 shots off 17 assists and 52 attempts.
Loyola Marymount led by 11 points with 6:09 left in the first half, but UC Santa Barbara used a 10-3 to knot the scores at 33-33 with 3:42 left the half.
The Lions went on to take a 42-38 halftime lead.
Both teams battled in the second half, but the home side was able to hold on for the win.
The Gauchos will return to action in West Coast Conference play on Saturday, Dec. 19 when they travel to Pepperdine for a game that will tipoff at 3:00 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Lions are scheduled to play twice this coming week against another set of Big West teams when they play hosts UC Irvine on Thursday, then welcomes Cal Poly to Gersten Pavilion on Saturday.
