The 2023 college baseball season is just around the corner and the anticipation is building as the D1Baseball Preseason Rankings were recently released. The Southeastern Conference (SEC) dominates the list with seven teams ranked in the top-10, including four teams in the top-five.
LSU takes the top spot in the rankings for the first time in the nine-year history of the rankings, followed by Tennessee at No. 2, Ole Miss at No. 4, Texas A&M at No. 5, Florida at No. 7, Arkansas at No. 8, and Vanderbilt at No. 10. Alabama is ranked No. 20, and South Carolina is No. 23.
This comes as no surprise as the SEC led all conferences with five teams in the NCAA Super Regionals and four teams in the College World Series last season, with Ole Miss winning the SEC’s third consecutive national title.
It’s worth noting that four SEC teams were also ranked in the top-five of the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Preseason Poll released in December, and three SEC teams were ranked in the top-four of the Perfect Game Preseason Top 25 announced earlier this month.
The 2023 college baseball season begins the weekend of Feb. 17th, and with so many strong SEC teams, it’s sure to be an exciting season.
Meanwhile, Stanford at No. 2, Wake Forest at No. 6 and No. 9 Oklahoma State round out the top 10 teams overall in the D1Baseball Preseason Rankings.
