Keeping his place in goal from the midweek League Cup win over Sunderland is Willy Caballero, while Nicolas Otamendi and Martin Demichelis are the starting centre-backs.
Why is Joe Hart on the bench?
Manager Pellegrini explains: “Joe had an injury problem during the week. That’s why he stayed on the bench against Sunderland [in the Capital One Cup] and if he’s just worked one day before this match.
” Friday was the only day he worked a complete session, so Willy will play today.”
Captain and leading centre-back Vincent Kompany also makes the bench after recovering from injury.
Kompany is available again after missing the last two matches with a calf injury, but may not be needed for this contest.
Fernando also starts for the Citizens, alongside Fernandinho, with Kevin De Bruyne, Yaya Toure, Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero in the team as well.
Aguero has been struggling in the league this season, but the Argentine international has enjoyed facing Spurs – as he’s scored 10 goals in seven Premier League matches – his highest amount against one club.
Pablo Zabaleta, Samir Nasri and Jesus Navas are among the subs today.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Mauricio Pochettino makes eight changes from his side which was beaten by Arsenal in the League Cup in midweek.
Striker Harry Kane, midfield playmaker Christian Eriksen and defender Eric Dier kept their places.
Heung-Min Son will join Kane in the attack, with Pochettino backing the England international to get off the mark soon.
According to Opta Stats, Hugo Lloris, the Tottenham goalkeeper has “conceded 17 goals in five Premier League games versus Man City, at a rate of one every 26 minutes.”
This could be a very busy day for the French and Tottenham first-choice.
