SHANGHAI, China, Sporting Alert — Manchester United beat English Premier League rivals Tottenham 2-1 in the International Champions Cup at Hongkou Stadium in Shanghai on Thursday.
Anthony Martial and Angel Gomes scored the goals for the Red Devils who remain perfect in pre-season with their fourth successive victory.
Lucas Moura scored from a deflected shot for Spurs in the second half.
The victory wasn’t achieved without concerns, however, for Manchester United after center-back Eric Bailly was forced to leave the pitch with an injury early in the second half.
After a relatively slow start, Man United lively up themselves to dominate after that period and took the lead through Martial in the 21st minute.
The Frenchman hit the post earlier in the game, but made no mistakes this time around when he ran onto a well-timed through ball from Andreas Pereira to beat goalkeeper Paolo Gazzaniga at the near post.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men continued to dominate what was a very feisty first half, while Tottenham midfielder Moussa Sissoko must have felt lucky after he appeared to stamp on United winger Daniel James during a challenge, but missed out on a booking.
Both teams made wholesale changes to the start the second half, with Solskjaer field entire new XI.
Tottenham pushed for a goal after the break and were rewarded with a 65th-minute equaliser, as Moura’s shot from outside the box deflected into the back of the net.

Manchester United snatched the victory with ten minutes to go, though, after Gomes squeezed a shot in off the far post after a well-played give and go play with second-half captain Juan Mata.
Tottenham handed a start to summer signing Tanguy Ndombele, but Manchester United were still without forward Romelu Lukaku, who continues to be linked with a move to Inter Milan.
United defender Bailly was stretchered off with an injury after he slipped while trying to track and was replaced by Axel Tuanzebe.
Solskjaer’s side will next face Norwegian side Kristiansund BK on Tuesday, while Tottenham take on Inter Milan on August 4.
