Boston, MA (Sporting Alert) — Mary Cain missed out at breaking the records she targeted on Friday, but the American wonder-teen still captured the women’s One Mile run at the Boston University Terrier Invitational in a very fast time.
Cain, who ran 4:24.11 to dominate the event, fell just .01 of a second short of the 4:24.10 World Junior record, which is owned by Ethiopian Kalkidan Gezahegne and set in Birmingham, UK, 2010.
The 17-year-old had also targeted Mary Slaney’s American record of 4:20.5, but fell well short of that landmark.
She, however, improved her own American junior mark of 4:28.25.
Dartmouth senior Abbey D’Agostino took second in 4:28.31, while the fading Jordan Hasay, a training partner of Cain, was pipped at the line for second and ran 4:28.37.
