PORTLAND, Ore., Sporting Alert — Manchester United will continue their 2017 pre-season fixtures against another MLS side, Real Salt Lake on Monday here at Providence Park, in Portland, Oregon.
Live streaming coverage of this game will be on WatchESPN in the United States and MUTV app or at the recently launched mutv.com in the UK, while ESPN2 will broadcast the action nationally, starting at 10 p.m. ET.
ESPN Deportes USA, ESPN Deportes+ USA and ESPN Deportes Radio will also have live coverage.
The English Premier League side crushed the Los Angeles Galaxy 5-2 in their opening 2017 pre-season game in Carson on Saturday night, and manager Jose Mourinho will be hoping to build on that performance as he continues to prepare his team for the new season.
Despite giving up two late goals, Mourinho said he was pleased with the way his team performed against the Galaxy.
“It was good and there were no injuries apart from Tim [Fosu-Mensah],” the Portuguese coach said.
“The most important thing for me was to compete and the second important thing was to see the players on the pitch in a system which we only played twice last season, so it is far from being our system but we have been working in the last two days to improve. Positionally it was good.”
Mourinho added that the scoreline meant nothing to him.
“I think the 5-2 for us means exactly the same as for them, we don’t care about it,” he revealed.
“It was a good training session and I thank him (LA coach) for that and I thank the Galaxy players for the competition they gave us.”
As Manchester United continues to work on different tactics and formations to prepare for the new season, Mourinho spoke about his plans for Monday night.
“Players will be playing in different positions and thinking football in a different way, and being organised in a different way,” he said.
“We are also going to play with four at the back. We will work with the same principle – 45 and 45 minutes and, if there is a chance to give five or 10 minutes to another kid, it’s always good for them.”
