SEC score: Vescovi helps No. 7 Tennessee overcome Ole Miss 63-59

Santiago Vescovi scored a game-high 22 points, including 12 in the second half, and No. 7 Tennessee overcame a sluggish start to beat Ole Miss 63-59 on the road at The Sandy and John Black Pavilion at Ole Miss in the SEC opener for both teams on Wednesday night.

Vescovi shot 8 of 14 from the field and knocked down three shots from 3-pointers across 37 minutes. Zakai Zeigler added 13 points, with 10 coming in the second half along, while Jonas Aidoo ended with eight points and 13 rebounds for the Volunteers (11-2, 1-0 SEC).

Jaemyn Brakefield scored 12 of his 18 points in the second half to lead Ole Miss. Amaree Abram finished 10 points, but no other player scored in double figures for the Rebels (8-5, 0-1), who lost for the fifth time in seven games after shooting 37.0% from the field on 19 of 51 shooting.

Ole Miss shot 46.2% in the first half and led Tennessee by six points, 34-28 at halftime, but the Vols used a mini-run to time the game at 36 early in the second half. The contest was also tied two more times at 41 and 43 in the second half before the Volunteers build a lead and held on for the win.
