The first goal came from a Pedro shot, which took a massive deflection and went in off a Uruguay defender Diego Lugano in the 19th minute, with the second coming from Roberto Soldado, who coolly slotted home a pass from Cesc Fábregas in the 32nd minute.

Barcelona forward Fábregas had earlier hit the post for Spain who are currently dominating most of the possession, as expected.

Meanwhile, Iker Casillas was handed the starting place in goal for Spain, following doubts over whether he would start after being left out for most of the second part of the season at Real Madrid.

Both David Villa and Fernando Torres are on the bench for Spain, with Roberto Soldado and Pedro getting the start in the attack.

Uruguay start a power attacking team, which is being led by Edinson Cavani and Luis Suárez.

Former Manchester United forward Diego Forlán is on the bench.
