Transfer Gossips: Man United want McCarthy; SkySports Paper roundups

LONDON (SportingAlert) — Manchester United are being linked with a move for Everton midfielder James McCarthy, as new manager Louis van Gaal look to strengthen his midfield for the coming season.

It is understood that McCarthy, who was very impressive for Everton last season, has welcomed the reported stories linking him with a move to Manchester United, with Van Gaal understood to be a fan of the Republic of Ireland international.

“If a club like Manchester United are interested, obviously you are doing a good job,” McCarthy, who joined Everton last season from Wigan said. “We will see what happens.”

According to Sky Bet, Manchester United are favourites to sign the 23-year-old this summer, and are 5/2 favourites to strike a deal before September 2.

Fellow English Premier League sides Arsenal and Tottenham are also said to be interested in signing the midfielder.

It is believed that a move for McCarthy to Manchester United, could see England international Tom Cleverley joining Roberto Martinez’s Everton side this summer.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports News Radio take a look at all the transfer gossips in the national papers on Tuesday.

Amongst the headlines on Tuesday, The Sun is reporting that Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini is in talks with Serie A side Napoli about a move, while playmaker Shinji Kagawa could also be on his way out of Old Trafford.

The Times, meanwhile, says that German side Wolfsburg is also interested in signing Chelsea for Romelu Lukaku and is prepared to challenge Everton for the Belgian World Cup star.

While the same paper says that Napoli want to sign Tottenham midfielders Sandro and Christian Eriksen.
