Australia, through Faulkner, who smashed 69 not out from 47 ball, including five sixes and three fours, Shaun Marsh, who ended with with 55 before Glenn Maxwell, who added 54, reached their target with three balls left.

“It is unbelievable,” Faulkner said. “Look we are here to win so thanks to everyone who came out.

“Yea it was looking that way at one point, but the middle order batted well exceptionally as we were able to pull off the victory. We only had one wicket left, and with Mitch’s experience he was trying to talk me through it.

“I knew I could do it deep down but it is always good to get it done on the day. Tried to hit it out of the park. Everyone was nervous and McKay has a beautiful forward defence so everyone did their job.”
