MIAMI, FL, Sporting Alert – The following are the three AP Top 25 ranked v ranked matchups to watch in NCAA college football Week 9 on Saturday.
Without a doubt, the highlighted clash among ranked teams this weekend is the ACC rivalry battle between No. 3 Clemson and No. 12 Florida State at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee.
The oddsmakers have been busy putting together their picks for this weekend and Las Vegas is backing the undefeated Tigers (7-0) as 4.5 point favourites against the 5-2 Seminoles.
Clemson hasn’t been the free flowing ballers this season, but seems to find the extra motivation when it’s needed to pick key wins, including knocking off then-No. 3 Louisville on Oct. 1.
If the Tigers can leave Tallahassee with a win Saturday night, their quest to make back-to-back College Football Playoffs appearances should be a lot easier, at least on paper.
Florida State sits behind Clemson and Louisville in the ACC Atlantic Division and can’t afford to lose any more games this season.
Both these teams will be banking on their defense to lead the way. This should be a classic.
Another top AP Top 25 college football game listed for Week 9 is the Big Ten matchup between No. 7 Nebraska v No. 11 Wisconsin at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison.
Nebraska (7-0) heads into this clash as one of nine undefeated NCAA FBS teams left in the country, but Las Vegas isn’t backing Mike Riley’s men.
In fact, Las Vegas listed the Badgers (5-2) as favourites by more than a touchdown.
To be exact, the oddsmakers have Wisconsin as a 9-point favourite to beat Nebraska at home.
The Badgers bounced back from a two-game skid with a 17-9 victory over Iowa last week.
A win against Wisconsin would prove that Nebraska is indeed one of the team’s to watch, but a defeat would almost end their chance of gaining a college football slot, given the strength of schedule.
The Cornhuskers can lose and still continue to lead the Big Ten West, but they still have Ohio State and Maryland to face.
No. 4 Washington is perhaps one of the most under-appreciated teams in the country, but again, the Huskies can prove their status with another signature win.
This weekend the fourth-ranked team in the country will take an undefeated 7-0 record into the PAC-12 showdown with No. 17 Utah at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City.
Washington sits at the top in the Pac 12 North, but is being well tracked by Washington State, which is also 4-0 in the league, while the Utes are leading the South with a 4-1 record.
Heisman Trophy contender Jake Browning, who has thrown for 1,709 yards and 26 touchdowns this term, will seek to improve his odds of winning the most prestigious college football individual award, when he leads the Huskies’ offense.
Washington is a 10.5 point favourite to beat Utah, according to the Las Vegas Odds.
Besides those games, college football fans will also be interested in watching Heisman front runner Lamar Jackson leads No. 5 Louisville at Virginia; undefeated No. 10 West Virginia goes to Stillwater to play Oklahoma State; while No. 2 Michigan opened as a 21.5-point favourite against fierce rivals Michigan State.
No. 6 Ohio State host Northwestern; the unbeaten No. 8 Baylor goes to Texas; with No. 15 Auburn travelling to Ole Miss.
