TOULOUSE, Sporting Alert – As expected, David de Gea starts in goal for Spain in Monday’s Euro 2016 Group D clash with the Czech Republic at Stadium Municipal here in Toulouse.
The Manchester United No. 1 has been in fantastic form for the English Premier League side this season, and he has been rewarded with the starting place for his country ahead of regular first-choice Iker Casillas.
There are concerns over whether the recent personal issues around him, would impact De Gea negatively, but head coach Vicente del Bosque says he has firm confidence in one of the best and focused keepers in the world.
Alvaro Morata is fit to start today after the Juventus forward missed the last warm-up match against Georgia with a thigh injury.
Morata will join Nolito in the attack, as the two-time champions look to get its Euro 2016 campaign off to a winning start.
Manchester City playmaker David Silva wins his 100th cap for Spain and the midfielder will start alongside Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas and Barcelona duo Sergio Busquets and Andres Iniesta in the midfield.
Gerard Pique and Sergio Ramos will start in the heart of the defence, with Jordi Alba and Juanfran playing at the full-back positions, as Cesar Azpilicueta and Marc Bartra were left on the bench.
Meanwhile, despite playing a limited amount of games for Arsenal this season, Tomas Rosicky starts in the hole for the Czech Republic and will play just behind striker Tomas Necid.
In fact, Rosicky only played 20 minutes this past season in the FA Cup for past season so there is no way he can be fit to give his best in tournament such as this.
Arsenal No. 1 Petr Cech starts in goal, but Borek Dockal, who has been hampered by an ankle injury, is fit to start on the bench.
Pavel Kaderabek, Tomas Sivok, David Limbersky and Vladimir Darida all start as well for the Czech Republic in their Euro 2016 opener, but Marek Suchy is suspended and has replaced at centre-back by Roman Hubnik.
Besides Casillas, Spain’s bench is loaded with talents, as the likes of Koke, Lucas, Pedro, Thiago and Aritz Aduriz are all available for selection.
