WIMBLEDON, Sporting Alert – Andy Murray and Serena Williams will be among the ranked players in action at Wimbledon 2016 on day two on Tuesday. The following is the order of play, while live streaming will be on ESPN 3, ESPN and WatchESPN.
Top-ranked Serena Williams will start the defense of her title against Switzerland’s Amra Sadikovic and the American says she is heading into this Grand Slam very relaxed.
“This year I don’t feel as much tension as I usually do,” she said. “Well, there’s some years I haven’t felt any tension, either. I’m feeling pretty good.”
The 34-year-old American also revealed that she is particularly excited about playing on these kinds of surfaces.
“I enjoy it on grass,” Williams said. “It’s usually the only tournament I play on grass.
“It’s a unique experience. It’s that one time a year you get to get on this amazing, beautiful surface. It feels really good.”
If Williams is going to get her hands on another grand slam, she will have to fend off some very worthy challengers.
Defeats in the French Open final earlier this month and at the Australian Open in January has forced the American to analyse her game a little more, as she seeks to find causes of those defeats this year.
“It’s important to learn from every loss. I think I usually do that,” Williams said.
“Throughout my whole career, I’ve have been able to learn a lot and come back a much better player.”
Meanwhile, former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark will open her Wimbledon 2016 campaign against No. 13 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia.
In other women’s first-round contests, No. 3 seed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland will take on Kateryna Kozlova of Ukraine, Italy’s No. 6 seed Roberta Vinci opens against USA’s Alison Riske, No. 8 Dominic Thiem will come up against Germany’s Florian Mayer, No. 10 Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic will face Romania’s Sorana Cirstea, while No. 11 Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland and Luksika Kumkhum of Thailand will battle.
