Purdue beats Duke to win Phil Knight Legacy 2022

PORTLAND, Ore. (November 27) —— Zach Edey had a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds and the No. 24 Purdue Boilermakers (6-0) beat the No. 8 Duke Blue Devils (6-2), 75-56 in the Phil Knight Legacy 2022 championship game at Moda Center in Portland, Oregon, on Sunday (27).

Edey shot 7-of-13 from the field today and made 7 of his 8 attempts from the free throw line as part of his fifth double-double performance this season for Purdue, which collected back-to-back wins against AP Top 10 teams this season, following the 84-66 hammering of No. 6 Gonzaga in the semifinals of the Phil Knight Legacy tournament on Friday night.

Fletcher Loyer added 18 points and made four 3-pointers, while Caleb Furst had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Boilermakers, who shot 44.8% from the field on their way to winning six in a row to start the new season.

The defeat on Sunday saw Duke missing out on winning five in a row since losing to the then-No. 6 Kansas on Nov. 15.

Purdue went into the halftime break with a 46-35 lead and build on the advantage to surge ahead 68-56 with 4:51 remaining. Duke made a good start to the game after getting out 14-7 early, but Purdue worked its way back into the game to dominate the contest.

For his outstanding performance at the tournament, the 7-foot-4 Edey was rightfully named tournament MVP.
