There are three games involving ACC teams listed on the schedule for today, including the clash at John Paul Jones Arena between No. 18 Virginia and Notre Dame at 4:30 pm ET. Notre Dame (3-7, 0-4) vs. No. 18 Virginia (7-2, 3-0)
In Charlottesville, Virginia starts as the overwhelming favorite against a Notre Dame team that remains winless in conference play and seems a bit low in confidence.
This will be the second meeting of the season between these two teams, following the 66-57 victory for Virginia over the Fighting Irish on Dec. 30.
While the Cavaliers (7-2, 3-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) take a three-game winning streak into this encounter, the Fighting Irish (3-7, 0-4) are stranded on the opposite side after losing three in a row and five of the last six games overall.
Virginia, per the William Hill Sportsbook, starts as a -9.5 point favorite versus Notre Dame, which is a +9.5 underdog. The money line for the Cavaliers is -550 with the Irish coming in at +400.
With the defensive prowess of Tony Bennett’s team, we are not expecting a high-scoring game. Virginia is holding ACC opponents to 56 points per game from the three conference fixtures so far, while scoring 66 points on the offensive side.
Overall this season the Cavaliers are averaging 71.6 points per contest and allowing 59.4.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame is scoring 70.6 points per game – which will probably come down significantly against this Virginia defense on Wednesday – and giving up 74.5.
The Cavaliers are seeking their sixth straight win in the head-to-head series against the Fighting Irish, according to Automated Insights. In its last five wins against Notre Dame, Virginia has won by an average of 10 points.
NC State Wolfpack vs Florida State
In another Atlantic Coast Conference fixture on the day, the sixteenth ranked Louisville will go in search of its fourth win in league play this season.
The Cardinals (8-1, 3-0 ACC) are also on a four-game winning streak since suffering their worst loss in more than 60 years to Wisconsin, in an 85-48 defeat on Dec. 19.
As expected, Louisville opens up as a -7.5 favorite against Wake Forest, according to William Hill Sportsbook odds, with the money line for the Cardinals sitting at -340. The Demon Deacons (3-3, 0-3) have lost three straight since winning their three openers.
Elsewhere, at the Donald L. Tucker Center, Florida State will host NC State, hoping to bounce back from the 77-67 setback at the previously unranked Clemson on Dec. 29.
The Wolfpack (6-3, 2-2) have lost two straight and are coming off a disappointing 64-59 home loss to the Miami Hurricanes on Jan. 9.
The Seminoles (5-2, 1-1 ACC) are -3.5 point favorites per the William Hill Sportsbook odds for this encounter.
