2018 NCAA Regional Tournament Scores: Day 2 On June 2
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Here are the 2018 NCAA Regional tournament scores and highlights on Day 2 on Saturday, June 2. It was another wild day of action, as No. 1 seed Florida State was eliminated, while Texas and Oregon State impressed.
Florida State became the first No. 1 seed to be eliminated from this year’s NCAA regional tournament after the Seminoles were defeated for a second successive time in the Tallahassee Regional.
After losing to No. 4 seed Samford on the opening day on Friday, FSU fell 3-2 to No. 2 seed Mississippi State on Saturday, resulting in a premature elimination from a tournament it was favored to win.
Meanwhile, top seed and national No. 1 ranked Florida held on for a 3-2 win over No. 2 seed Jacksonville to advance to the Gainesville Regional at
Alfred A. McKethan Stadium.
Another top seed, Oregon State, belted No. 2 seed LSU 14-1 in the Corvallis Regional to book a place in the championship game, while the Tigers will now take on No. 4 seed Northwestern State in an elimination game on Sunday, starting at 3 p.m. and streaming live on ESPN3.
In the Austin Regional at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, Texas scored three very early runs and kept scoring consistently throughout the contest to pick up an 8-3 win over No. 3 seed Texas A&M.
Texas scored eight runs on 15 hits.
The Aggies rack up nine hits against the No. 1 seeded Longhorns, but it isn’t sufficient to help earn a win.
Elsewhere, freshman Jace Chamberlin hammered a 2-0 pitch out of the ballpark to help Cal State Fullerton registered a 2-1 victory against No. 1 seed Stanford in the Stanford Regional.
The defeat for the Cardinal at Klein Field at Sunken Diamond on Saturday sees them facing elimination and must beat No. 2 seed Baylor to stay alive in the tournament.
Tallahassee Regional No. 3 seed Oklahoma also advance to its championship game after defeating No. 4 seed Samford 4-0 for its second win.
No. 2 seed Auburn defeated No. 4 seed Army 12-1 in the Raleigh Regional at Doak Field to advance to the championship, while No. 1 seed NC State survived elimination by beating No. 3 seed Northeastern, 9-3 and stay on track to win in Raleigh.
