Honor Leads Clemson In Second Half Dominance

After missing his first shot in the half, Honor made the next five in a row, including four 3-pointers to lead his team in scoring at Littlejohn Coliseum on Monday.

Al-Amir Dawes added 12 points on 4-for-9 shooting – all from 3-pointers – as he and Honor combined to connect on 8 of the 10 3-pointers made by the Tigers (6-1), who were ranked 24th coming into the game, but fell out of the Associated Press Top 25 poll in the latest release.

Aamir Simms finished a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds and two steals before fouling out of the game with 1:44 left in the second half.

Jonathan Baehre grabbed eight rebounds and Clyde Trapp ended with eight points, five rebounds, and two steals for Clemson, which collected 34 points off the bench and scored 21 points off turnovers, and outrebounded Morehead State 31-25.

Skyelar Potter led the Eagles (4-6) with 22 points on 7 of 10 shooting with five 3-pointers. Morehead State shot 17 of 36 from the field for 47.2% and scored 20 points in the paints.

Morehead State Had No Answers For Tigers

Trailing 16-14 with 6:46 left in the first half, the Tigers used a 15-0 run to build a 13 point lead and blow the contest wide open. They went into the halftime break with a 32-19 advantage.

Morehead State shot 11.1% from 3-pointers in the first half and made 6 of its 16 shots from the field in the first period for 37.5%.

After the break, Clemson extended its lead to 18 points, with Sims scoring the first six points and eight of the 11 points after the restart for the Tigers.

The lead eventually grew to 24 points at the halfway mark in the second half with Honor hitting four 3-pointers during that stretch.

In fact, Honor made four straight 3s in a 14-3 stretch that put the home side up 57-33 with 9:17 remaining.


Clemson is slated to face No. 21 Florida State on Dec 29. Game time is set for 7:00 PM ET. The Seminoles rolled over the Tigers 72-53 at home last season but were then edged 70-69 in the return fixture. Florida State has defeated Clemson in four of the last six meetings in the series.

Morehead State will return to Ohio Valley Conference play against Murray State on the road on Jan 2. Tip-off time is 5:00 PM ET and ESPN+ will stream the game.
