MELBOURNE (Sporting Alert) – American and top-seeded Serena Williams was upset by Serbian No. 14 seed Ana Ivanovic in the fourth-round at the Australian Open on Sunday.

Here are the results from the Australian Open Women’s Singles Round 4 matches on Day seven at Melbourne Park.

Williams, who complained of a back problem was beaten 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 by Ivanovic, who ended the American’s quest to win her sixth Australian Open and 18th Grand Slam crown.

“It wasn’t the best,” Williams said of the back problem.

“Again, I don’t want to blame anything. I feel like Ana deserves all the credit.

“I feel she played unbelievable today. I think she went for her shots. It’s not like I gave her the match.”

Ivanovic was also winning against Williams for the first time in five attempts.

“It’s not easy playing such a champion … but she is also just a human,” said Ivanovic. “I just went out there swinging.”

There was no problem for the fourth–seeded Li Na of China who beat No. 22 Ekaterina Makarova (Russia) 6-2, 6-0 in her fourth round game.
