Baseball Regionals Day 2 Live On ESPN3

Sporting Alert – The NCAA Baseball Regionals will continue on Saturday with another loaded schedule, as the race in the “Road to Omaha” enters day 2.

Live and exclusive streaming coverage from 35 tournaments on Saturday will be available on ESPN3 and WatchESPN, with the SEC Network also broadcasting selected games.

No. 1 nationally ranked Florida (48-13), which beat Bethune-Cookman 9-3 in the late hours at the Gainesville Regionals at Alfred A. McKethan Stadium on Friday night, will on take the tournament third seeded Connecticut at 6 p.m. ET.

The game saw baseman Peter Alonso, who missed three weeks of action with an injury, returned to pilot the Gators with a pair of homers, while finishing with 3-of-4 and three runs scored with three RBI.

“That’s kind of how baseball works,” Florida coach Kevin O’Sullivan said on the Gators website. “The guy has been out three weeks and comes up and gives us two homers.”

Junior Alonso, who sat on the side with a fractured left hand, admitted that it was frustrating to just sit and watch his teammates play.

“I’m not going to lie, it sucked,” Alonso said about having to miss three weeks. “I wanted to be out there, play with my guys and help my team win.

“Initially when I broke it, I thought I wasn’t going to be able to play as a Gator again. Having that thought is kind of scary. It’s a blessing to be able to come back. I’m back and it feels good.”

Bethune-Cookman and Georgia Tech will battle in the loser’s bracket at Noon, also streaming live on ESPN3.

At the Louisville Regionals, the No. 2 NCAA ranked Cardinals (48-12) will look for its second victory at Jim Patterson Stadium when they take on No. 2 seed Ohio State (44-18) at 4 p.m. ET, live on ESPN3.

Both ball clubs advanced to the winner’s bracket with respective victories on Friday’s day 1, as Louisville defeated No. 4 seed Western Michigan 6-1 in its opener and the Buckeyes edged the third-seeded Wright State 7-6 in the other regional tournament opener.

After a rain-affected day 1 at Hawkins Field in the Nashville Regionals, three games are now scheduled for Saturday’s day 2.

Friday’s matchup between Vanderbilt (43-17) and Xavier (30-28), which was postponed because of rain, will now go ahead at 1 p.m. on Saturday with the winner taking on UC Santa Barbara later in the night.

Washington will face the loser of the 1 p.m. fixture in the loser’s bracket.

Three games are also slated in Baton Rouge Regionals at Alex Box Stadium, following another postponed contest because of rain.

ESPN3 will stream the 10 a.m. rescheduled battle involving Southeastern Louisiana (39-19) and Rice (35-22), with the winner of this game advancing to the winner’s bracket to meet LSU (43-18).

Utah Valley will play the loser in the loser’s bracket.
