MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — No. 4 Baylor suffered its first defeat of the season after losing 41-27 to West Virginia in a college football upset on Saturday.
Senior quarterback Clint Trickett went 23 of 35 for 322 yards and threw three touchdown passes in the victory for the Mountaineers (5-2, 3-1 Big 12).
The Baylor Bears (6-1, 3-1 Big 12) led the contest until the closing minutes of the second quarter when Dreamius Smith scored to give West Virginia a 21-20 lead, before Josh Lambert made a field goal to give the Mountaineers a 24-20 advantage heading into halftime.
Baylor came back to tie the game at 27-27 in the third quarter, but West Virginia scored 14 unanswered points to take the victory and handed the sloppy Bears a crushing defeat in Week 8.
Bryce Petty, who went 16 of 36 for 223 yards and two touchdowns, was sacked four times in the defeat, as the Bears failed to duplicate last week’s impressive double-digit comeback 61-58 win over TCU.
