NO. 3 OKLAHOMA 84, HAWAII 81
Hawaii gave No. 3 Oklahoma a scare in a Diamond Head Classic college basketball semifinal on Wednesday night in Honolulu, HI.
Buddy Hield scored 27 points and had nine rebounds to lead the way for the Sooners (10-0) who just escaped with an 84-81 victory and moved into the championship game.
The senior guard went 7 of 16 from the floor, including 5 of 9 from 3-pointers, and played a team-high 38-minutes in the battle.
Khadeem Lattin added a career-high 17 points to go with eight rebounds and two steals and Isaiah Cousins chipped in with 14 points and six assists for Oklahoma, which led by as many as 16 points during the first half.
Hawaii got off to a very poor start and found themselves trailing 21-5 in the first half.
However, the Rainbow Warriors rallied to trim the deficit to just one point at halftime, and went into the break, down 41-40.
Roderick Bobbitt finished the game with a career-high 32 points and had six assists, four rebounds and three steals for Hawaii, which shot 45.5 percent from the field on 25 of 55 shooting.
Bobbitt went 8 of 12 from the field, including 3 of 4 from 3-point range, and hit 13 of his 16 free throws, but missed a late 3-pointer which would have tied the game and forced overtime play with the nation’s third-ranked team.
Stefan Jankovic had 17 points and three blocks for the Rainbow Warriors (8-2), who had their four-game winning streak ended.
No. 16 LOUISVILLE 98, UTAH VALLEY 68
Trey Lewis poured in 21 points and seven rebounds, and No. 16 Louisville cruised to an easy 98-68 victory over Utah Valley in a college basketball game on Wednesday night.
Lewis made three of his six 3-point attempts and went 7 of 10 from the field in 25 minutes.
The Cardinals (11-1) who shot 55.4 percent from the floor on 31 of 56 shooting, also collected 15 points from Quentin Snider and 11 from Damion Lee in the victory.
Konner Frey led Utah Valley with 17 points and six rebounds, with Marcel Davis scoring 15 points and had five assists for the Wolverines (5-8) who turned the ball over 19 times.
